Blue Car Badge (previously Orange Badge)

Information and application forms for a Blue Car Badge are available from the Council House.

Parking badges are issued only to certain categories of disabled people.  Proof of entitlement to, for example, Disability Living Allowance will be needed with an application.

Completed applications should be returned to the council with 2 recent passport sized photographs.  There is a small charge for administration.

Buses

Doncaster Community Transport operates a bus service for those who are unable to use ordinary buses (such as wheelchair users). The Dial-a-Ride is a door-to-door service providing transport to the Frenchgate Centre and Tesco Supermarket.

Mobility Travel Pass

If you have a disbility, physical or learning, are below 65 years of age and live in the South Yorkshire area you could qualify for a Mobility Travel Pass.  This enables the holder to travel for free on all buses, trains and trams in the South Yorkshire area.

Taxis

Some taxi firms offer facilities for disabled people, whether in manual or powered wheelchairs. DiAL (see Section 8.1) have factsheets with more detailed information.

 
Trains

National Rail publish a booklet 'Rail Travel for Disabled Passengers' which includes an application form for a Disabled Person's Railcard (which entitles the holder to 1/3 off the cost of travel).

Allow up to 3 weeks for your application to be processed. Unlike other railcards, a Disabled Person's Railcard cannot be bought at the station on the day of travel.

 
 

Intercity trains have wheelchair spaces available, but must be booked in advance. Customers with special needs are able to book in advance for assistance at stations and in getting on and off trains. Contact the train company you are using, or for local services contact:

Transport to and from school is provided by the Local Authority Education Department for children and young people with disabilities.

13.3 Family Fund Trust
 

You may be able to get a grant for transport from the Family Fund Trust if your child needs help with getting out and about.  If your child has to go to hospital for appointments ot into hospital you may be able to claim help towards travel costs for your child and the person who goes with him/her.  The fund can also provide a grant to pay for driving lessons so that parents can transport their child.
