About TIE (Together Information Exchange)

12.1 Council for Voluntary Service (CVS)

What is a Self-Help Group?

A Self-Help Group consists of people who have personal experiences of a similar problem or life situation, either directly or through their family or friends.
Sharing experiences enables them to give each other a unique quality of mutual support. They are able to exchange practical information and find ways of coping.

Groups are run FOR and BY their members.

Advice and Support:

  • Do you feel isolated?

  • Would you like to talk to others who share a similar experience?

  • Are you involved in a Self-Help Group?

  • Are you thinking of setting up a Self-Help Group?

Doncaster CVS has a Self-Help Development Worker who can offer advice and support with:

  • Getting a group started

  • Publicity, leaflets and posters

  • Organising the group

  • Training needs

  • Ideas about sources of funding

  • Forming a committee

  • Drafting a constitution

  • Contacts/links to other self-help groups and organistions

  • General information

For more information or a start-up pack, contact Doncaster CVS on the number below.
