Doncaster Council Has a New Car Sharing Scheme...

Car Share South Yorkshire

Car Share South Yorkshire is a website set up to help people travelling in the county. It is part of the national Liftshare network and is supported by the four South Yorkshire councils in Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield and by the South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive. It is especially aimed at employees of local government and helps towards reducing daily travel costs while helping to reduce CO2 emissions.
 
To use the scheme, just go to http://www.liftshare.org/default.asp?sub=2485 for Doncaster Council employees, and register yourself and your journey details for FREE.
 
You will then need to activate your account via an email link, which will be automatically sent to you.
 
You can also search the system for a potential match and contact them to arrange travel.
 
The benefits of the scheme are considerable and include:

• Reduced travel costs – drivers and passengers can split the costs of travel
  
• Improved access – to areas which aren’t accessible through public transport
  
• Meeting new people – sharing a car is a great way to meet colleagues, friends and neighbours
  
• Reduced congestion – by sharing cars you can do your bit to help reduce congestion in the area
  
• Reduced pollution – cutting congestion will also help to reduce pollution
  
• Reduced Carbon Dioxide emissions – which in turn will help to reduce the development of global warming

Once registered, you can access your account from work or home making searching as convenient as possible. You can also choose whether to search for lifts with fellow colleagues or from the whole liftshare.com database.
 
The scheme has been designed to be as safe and secure as possible, none of your personal information will be revealed on-line. In addition, women can choose to travel only with other women and men with other men.

Please be aware that users registered on Doncaster's previous Car Share Database will need to re-register.
