The Road Safety Education Unit

The Road Safety Education Unit works closely with schools to promote practical road user skills training for cyclists and pedestrians.

Stepping Out - is a pedestrian training scheme for children in years 1 and 2. It involves children and parents and takes place on the roads immediately adjacent to the school.

Stepping Across - is a pedestrian training scheme for children in year 4. It involves children in the development of safe crossing strategies and allows them to practice skills under supervision.

Bikeability - is practical cycling skills training for children in year 6. The training takes place on the road in light traffic conditions. Children are assessed on their cycle skills and knowledge of the Highway Code for Young Road Users.

Resources are available for loan by schools to incorporate safety related topics into most aspects of the curriculum. Further information can be obtained by telephoning the unit on (01302) 737544.
