Information about the Strategy

Doncaster’s Play Strategy has been developed as part of the work of the Children & Young People’s Partnership Trust. Local partners are committed to addressing barriers to play and ensuring that a case for more and improved play provision is put forward.

The Strategy aims to keep children and young people at the heart of provision, promote enjoyment, equality and social inclusion, increase and improve play provisions for all children and young people and promote Playwork training. Nine key priority areas support these aims, each with its own structured action plan.

It is drafted alongside the BIG Lottery Fund and Children’s Play Council guidance on planning for play and supports Best Play’s 7 play objectives.

Quality Inclusion in Play

The Play Strategy has 9 priorities all aimed at increasing and improving play provision for the children and young people of Doncaster.  Two priorities focus on equality and inclusion for the most isolated groups.  They are;

To promote and encourage equality and social inclusion

Key Action - To promote and increase awareness of play in different cultures and the barriers faced by

vulnerable groups, in particular looked after children, children with disabilities, gypsy and travellers, asylum

seekers and refugees.

To increase and improve provision for the most isolated groups

Key Action - To work in partnership with the voluntary and community sector to provide provisions that

cater for the different needs, beliefs and cultures of the most vulnerable groups, in particular looked after

children, children with disabilities, gypsy and travellers, asylum seekers and refugees.

We see inclusion as every child being respected and catered for as an individual.  However in order to achieve this, providers may need support, training or guidance in order to have the confidence and skills to ensure inclusion for BME, Gypsy Roma and Traveller, disability, LAC, Gender or any other underrepresented or disadvantaged group.

The following document provides useful guidance, information and contact details for further support on promoting, encouraging and improving Equality and Social Inclusion in play provision.
