About Child Care Units

There are a number of Child Care Units in the Doncaster area which provide accommodation for children and young people looked after by the Council.

The services offered by the Units include:

• Long and short term placements
• Outreach services
• Support for children to return to their families
• Emergency accommodation
• Shared care (part time in the unit and part time with the family)

There are units which offer a home to young people, for example those who are 11-16 years old and there are others who provide a home to younger children. The staff in the Units provide educational support in partnership with other agencies and also make sure that the children in the Units have access to any specialist support that they might need, for example, the Nurse for looked after children or the Children's Rights Officer.
