The Chair of Council is elected by fellow Members of the Council at the Annual Council Meeting held in May and holds office for one year.
The Chair of Council represents the Authority at ceremonial events and welcomes enquiries from members of the public, partner organisations and community groups, to support their events, celebrations and promotions whenever possible, subject to existing diary commitments.
For your further information, when attending ceremonial events the title of Civic Mayor is used. On other occasions the correct title is Chair of Council.
Before your invitation to the Chair of Council can be entered into the civic diary, it is necessary to complete the Request for Attendance e-form in the link below and submit it, as soon as possible.
Please note that attendance by the Chair of Council is not guaranteed on submission of the e-form. Confirmation of the Chair of Council’s attendance at your event will be forwarded to you by separate letter.
Once the Chair of Council and Consort have arrived at your event they should be met by a responsible person and escorted to their correct position.
Organisers are advised that the Chair of Council should be placed immediately to the right, and the Consort immediately to the left, of the Chairman at a meeting or dinner. The form of address for greeting or introductions to the Chair of Council is “Mr Chairman” and for his partner “Consort”.
Should you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact the Civic Office using the contact details at the top of this web page.
