Doncaster has an Elected Mayor who also serves a four year term of office and that election takes place in the year when there are no local elections. The next local election will take place in May 2010, the next mayoral election takes place in 2013.
Currently the political constitution of the Council is Elected Mayor English Democrat, 25 Labour Councillors, 12 Liberal Democrat Councillors, 10 Alliance of Independent Councillors, 9 Conservative Councillors, 3 Independent Councillors, 4 Community Group Councillors.
The Member Development Working Group consists of a representative from each of the political groups on Doncaster Council and officers of the Council. The Working Group has been established to formulate a strategy for Councillor development and training whilst in their term of office. The documents below set out the strategy and action plan agreed by the Working Group.
Elected Members are entitled to a basic allowance, Special Responsibility (for holding particular positions) and allowable expenses. Allowances are recommended by an Independent Remuneration Panel, a panel appointed from members of the public. The allowances are indexed linked to the NJC pay award for Local Government employees.
Details of the current allowances payable under this scheme are shown in the document below titled Members' Allowance Scheme.
Details of the payments that have been made to individual Members can be found by accessing the Members Allowances, Travel and Subsistence schedules for the relevant year as listed below. Such documents contain the details we are required to publish by law on the allowances paid to Elected Members.
