Doncaster Council is alerting all residents affected by the floods to the dangers of dealing with damaged gas or electrical systems in their homes.
Mayor Martin Winter said: "As the clean-up operation continues to take full force, I urge all residents to be aware of the serious hazards that faulty gas or electrical systems and household appliances present. For residents with any doubts at all, the Council is here to help, and put safety first."
Residents returning to flood damaged homes are reminded all gas installation work and servicing of appliances must be carried out by a CORGI registered gas fitter to ensure strict safety standards are met. Employing a trader who is not CORGI registered could prevent residents from being able to make an insurance claim on properties in the event of an incident involving a faulty gas appliance.
For homeowners considering undertaking electrical work on their property, residents are advised to contact Doncaster Council to check that any proposed work will comply with building regulations.
