Doncaster Council introduced its own Safer Neighbourhood Teams with the aim of tackling and reducing crime and disorder in communities across Doncaster by target hardening properties, targeting prolific and priority offenders, gathering crime and community intelligence.
Each Safer Neighbourhood Team is led by a Police Inspector and a Council Area Manager, whilst a Police Sergeant and Neighbourhood Manager are in charge of each of the neighbourhoods in that team. Each team is comprised of Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs), Community Safety Wardens (CSWs) and Council Officers, and provide not only a visible presence in the fight against crime, but also a direct point of contact in local neighbourhoods.
You may have seen the new PCSOs patrolling your area. Their aim is to complement Doncaster Council's CSWs who have already provided a valuable asset to dealing with community issues. PCSOs are police staff, whose role it is to be at the forefront of neighbourhood policing.
The safer neighbourhood team work with the community and partner agencies and by joining forces the teams tackle a host of neighbourhood issues and concerns. Among these are quality of life problems, graffiti, noisy neighbours, anti-social behaviour and vandalism. Their aim is to listen and talk to local people and to work with them to help make their neighbourhood a safer, cleaner and greener area.
