The Rossington Neighbourhood covers Old and New Rossington.
Rossington is located nearly six miles from Doncaster and was a thriving mining village once the pit was sunk in 1912. Employees settled in the village and it became the largest village in Europe, the population currently stands at 13,250. The closure of the pit had a negative impact on the village and has placed it within the top 12% of the most deprived wards in England
The railway line running through Rossington has created a natural divide with the latest private housing developments situated in Old Rossington while the ex-pit houses/Council houses are situated in New Rossington, though new housing is being built on the former pit.
There are 5 primary schools in the village in addition to All Saints Sports College which is presently undergoing a major rebuild and Northern Racing College. The development of Doncaster Education City is to include a super gateway campus at Holmescarr School to provide accessible learning facilities for students of all ages to improve their employment opportunities and life skills.
Rossington Development Trust has been established to actively build the community and improve accessibility to the village and the new airport, the development of land for commerce and housing, improvements to health and enhancement of the village environment to make it a more attractive place to live. It is anticipated that the operation of Robin Hood Doncaster Sheffield Airport and the availability of the link road to the airport around the village will provide Rossington with the opportunity to thrive and narrow the gap between the more prosperous areas of the country.
Rossington has its own Library and a sports centre hosting swimming and gym facilities.
