Newton Conservation Area

The hamlet of Newton was designated a Conservation Area in 1992. A Conservation Area is an 'area of special architectural or historic interest, the character of which is desirable to preserve or enhance'. It is the character of the area rather than the presence of individual buildings, which justifies designation of a Conservation Area.

As part of the Council's programme to review all 46 Conservation Areas that lie within the Borough, Newton Conservation Area has been assessed and a draft appraisal, including management proposals, has now been compiled. The appraisal sets out what is special about the area and will also be used to guide planning decisions in the Newton Conservation Area. The management proposals give suggestions on how the uniqueness can be preserved and/or enhanced.

The draft appraisal, including management proposals, is attached below and can also be viewed in hardcopy at either the reception of Development and Planning (open Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5.00pm), at the Central Library or at Sprotbrough Library.

We would welcome your comments on the appraisal and on the management proposals as these are due to go through the Council's approval process for their potential adoption in the near future. Please contact me, either in writing, telephone or e-mail using the contact details at the top of this page to have your say. Any comments must be received by Monday 19th January 2009 so that they can be used in the process of deciding which management proposals are to be adopted.

Following this event, draft Management Plans for the Town Centre conservation areas have been prepared and a further event was held on Saturday 17 February 2007.

Appraisals and management proposals have been finalised and can be viewed below. Management proposals are due to be adopted by Winter 2008.

The consultation event for the Bawtry Conservation Area Appraisal took place in Bawtry on the 10th March 2007.

It was an opportunity to have your say on what you like/dislike about the character of the area and what would you like to see happen with regards to developments within the town.

The appraisal can be viewed below:

Fishlake

After previous discussions with the local community a conservation area appraisal has been produced.  Management Proposals are now also available.

The appraisal will be used as a material consideration when considering planning applications in the conservation area.

The management proposals, if addopted, will be used to preserve and enhance the Conservation Area.

A meeting was held on Tuesday 14th October 2008 at Fishlake Village Hall, where the appraisal was presented and comments on the management proposals were welcome.

If you wish to discuss any of the above please contact the Design and Conservation Area team as above.
