Doncaster Council has established the Doncaster Geodiversity Partnership (DGP) and has developed a draft Geodiversity Action Plan for the Borough.
The aim of the partnership is to develop and carry out the objectives of the Action Plan. The plan will reflect the views and objectives of the group, which will, amongst other objectives be to identify, conserve and enhance the best geological sites in the Borough.
The partnership will promote an interest in our local geology including education, recreation, and culture, and provide an up to date audit of both sites, skills and local knowledge and finally influence planning policy.
The Doncaster Geodiversity Action Plan is about action not just theory. In the same way that the Local Biodiversity Action Plan was produced, we will develop a plan with objectives, targets and indicators and then act on them.
The action planning process has proved effective at delivering conservation targets that benefit rare and threatened habitats and species in Doncaster and the same process will be used to develop the Geodiversity Action Plan.
Doncaster's adopted Geodiversity Action Plan was adopted by Doncaster Council, following public consultation. The plan and a summary of the consultation process can be downloaded below:
