This new Design Guide, created by the Doncaster Design Centre in conjunction with Sheffield Hallam University, is intended as an easy to use guide to incorporating sustainable principles in new housing developments.
With the accelerating pace of climate change and the widening gap between reserves of oil and gas and consumption, it is obvious that everything possible must be done to make drastic reductions in carbon dioxide emissions. In industrialized countries the built environment is the sector responsible for the largest emissions of Carbon Dioxide(CO2). The way buildings are designed and used must evolve from being a major part of the climate change problem to becoming an integral part of the solution.
Therefore, the purpose of this document is to promote and encourage the development and understanding of the principles of sustainable development and construction in residential situations. We hope you enjoy it.
