Doncaster Design Centre will this year be staging a series of exciting and innovative events providing a local perspective to the national Architecture Week theme of "How green is my space?"

Friday 15th June - Launch Event

The Hub, Doncaster Education City
5pm - 7.30 pm

This event provided a full insight into the array of exciting development activities across the area, including presentations from high-level speakers. Attendees were treated to drinks and tapas on arrival and had the opportunity to network with individuals and professionals from across the region. 

There was the opportunity to see presentations on Renaissance Projects from across the Yorkshire and Humberside. This included guest speakers from across the Yorkshire Towns Initiative including Doncaster's Mayor Martin Winter and Leader of Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council, Councillor Stephen Houghton CBE.

Saturday 16th June - Tour of Doncaster's Keepmoat Stadium

Architecture Week included a tour of Doncaster's newly built, £32m Keepmoat Stadium at the Lakeside.

Monday 18th June - Setting Requirements for Recycled Content in Construction Projects

This FREE Training session was aimed at public and private sector developers with specialist advice provided by Andy Garbutt of Davis Langdon.

This special session was supported by WRAP and counted towards continuous Professional Development for attendees.

Tuesday 19th June - High Rise Settlement Game

All Day Session

Local schools were offered the opportunity to build their own high-rise development, whilst exploring issues around sustainability.  This event was only open to participating schools.

A fantastic opportunity to visit Sedum House, British Trust for Conservation Volunteers' (BTCV) new innovative and sustainable Head Office and Training Centre, included talks by Joanne Zumbe from JM Architects and Martin Hall of BTCV.

Thursday 21st June - Visits to Doncaster Racecourse

Site Visits to Doncaster's newly re-developed Racecourse
10am and 2pm

Doncaster Racecourse's £32 million refurbishment began in January 2006.  The 20 month long project  transformed the Grade 1 Yorkshire track into one of the most modern and impressive facilities in the country by August 2007.  The new facilities now include a new 5 storey grandstand and an exhibition and conference centre which feature new restaurants, bars and private boxes with panoramic views of the track.

Friday 22nd June - Sustainability Buildings, Rotherham

Visit to Award Winning Sustainable Buildings in Rotherham
Coach pick-up at 10.30am in front of Ward Bros, Waterdale to return at 3pm.

A visit to the award winning Moorgate Crofts Business Centre and the Breathing Space Centre in Rotherham.  This included a presentation from the scheme architects and engineers. Travel and lunch were included.
