Local Land Charges - Personal Searches

It is possible to carry out a Personal Search which is a search of the Local Land Charges Register only. Any member of the public may carry out this Personal Search but in recent times this has tended to be conducted by “Personal Search Companies” who charge their own fee for conducting the search. Please note that a Personal Search does not provide all the information given on Full LLC1 and Con29R search.

It is the responsibility of the Personal Searcher to write down information contained within the Land Charges Register as no written information is given by this Department.

The Personal Searcher may inspect other Public Registers which are held by other departments. These departments should be contacted to identify the type of Registers available and whether an appointment is necessary.

The Land Charges Department is open Monday to Friday between the hours of 8.30am - 12 pm and operates an appointment system with half hour appointments, the last appointment being 11.30 am.  Anyone wishing to carry out a Personal Search should telephone the appointment line on 01302 737293 after 2pm for an appointment the following day.

The Personal Searcher should provide the full address of the property to be searched together with a plan clearly outlined showing the area to be searched on. If no plan can be supplied then the onus is on the searcher to identify the search area.

The fee for the above service is £11.00, with an additional fee of £1 (to a maximum of £16) for each additional parcel of land should this apply.

At the time of carrying out the Personal Search the searcher can ask for an LLC1 to be carried out at a cost of £21.00. This will be forwarded on once completed at a later date.

PLEASE NOTE WE DO NOT ACCEPT PERSONAL CHEQUES UNLESS ACCOMPANIED BY A BANKERS CARD.
