Discovering the Ancient Don Gorge
Keen historians can find out more about the ‘Discovering the Ancient Don Gorge’ project by visiting an exciting new interactive website called www.yourfind.org.uk
Launched by the Don Gorge Strategic Partnership, the star attraction of the website is the Yourfind WebMuseum, an online gallery of artifact images from the collections of Doncaster Council’s Museum and Art Gallery archaeology collections. All the artifacts shown in the gallery come from within the project area, having been found in the Don Gorge between Cadeby Viaduct and Sprotbrough Plantation.
Cusworth Hall, Museum and Park
Cusworth Lane, Doncaster, DN5 7TU, Tel 01302 782342 for Cusworth Hall and 01302 390959 for the Tea Rooms.
Discover the delights of Cusworth Hall, an imposing 18th century country house set in extensive landscaped parklands, once home to the Battie-Wrightson family. The Grade 1 listed house is deemed a site of special interest due to the preservation of all elements of a Georgian country house. It houses displays on the history of Doncaster and its people.
Following a major grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund and Doncaster Council, the Hall and Park have recently undergone a major refurbishment programme: roofs on the buildings have been replaced and stonework repaired. In the chapel, ceiling paintings which have not been seen for 50 years have been revealed by painstaking conservation.
Visitors can also enjoy real country fare in the Hall's Tea Room, amidst plenty of old world charm and character. Delicious home-baked cakes and pastries are available, as well as a range of snacks, daily specials and ice cream.
For further information about events and opening times visit the Cusworth Hall website.
