Disabled Children's Resources

Volunteer opportunities - We are looking for people to support families of disabled children by offering regular opportunities for them to have a short break from caring.

Becoming a short break carer is a rewarding and enjoyable experience and really transforms the lives of families of disabled children.
While spending time with a short break carer disabled children are given the opportunity to make new friends, develop their independence and enjoy hobbies and activities that most non-disabled children take for granted, all while parents get a valuable break from caring.
Short break carers look after disabled children on a regular basis for a few hours a week or an overnight stay once a month with an allowance paid to cover expenses. We welcome enquiries from residents from a wide variety of backgrounds and no experience is necessary as training is given, all that is required is a willingness to help a disabled child realise their potential.

For more information about becoming a short break carer please call 01302 734716.

Youth Offending Service (YOS)

Formed in 1999, Doncaster YOS has staff from a variety of professional backgrounds including Social workers, Police officers, Probation officers, Health advisors, Education officers, Drugs workers, Accommodation officers and Connexions staff.

It is well known that children and young people offend for a variety of reasons – social and family problems, peer group pressures, social exclusion, truancy, drug problems – and therefore if young people are to be prevented from re-offending they need the input of staff with a variety of knowledge and skills to assist them to make the right life choices.

No single agency has all the solutions to youth offending, but by working together, sharing knowledge, skills and experience, staff from the different agencies and professions can reduce it.

The development of YOS in each part of the country is being overseen by the Youth Justice Board, which has set the following objectives:
