Youth Offender Panels are made up of local community members recruited and trained by the Youth Offending Service to work with young people made subject to Referral Orders.
Local members of the community having received training will be part of a group of panel members who will attend meetings involving young offenders, their parents/carers, victims of the offence and members of the Youth Offending Service.
The panel will be provided with reports of the circumstances of the offence and any other information available that will assist in the identifying what will assist in supporting the young person in reducing any risks of further offending. The young person, family, victim and panel members will agree a contract that will identify programmes/interventions that will help the young person address their offending behaviour. The panel will monitor the young person’s progress throughout the Referral order process.
Doncaster Youth Offending Service is currently looking to recruit and train volunteers to sit on these youth offender panels, which are a key element of the government’s strategy to prevent offending by young people.
We are looking for men and women aged 18 and over and from every ethnic and social background to help tackle youth crime in our community. Potential youth offender panel members will be given full training to prepare them for this rewarding but challenging role.
Representation
It is important that youth offender panel members are representative of the communities that they serve. We want panel members aged 18 and above from every ethnic and social background. Doncaster Council is committed to equal opportunities.
