What is ABC+?

ABC+ is a multi agency scheme focused on how anti-social behaviour (ASB) committed by young people can best be addressed across Doncaster, combining firm responses with appropriate, tailor made support packages.

Who is it for?

ABC+ is aimed at 10-17 year olds involved in, or at risk of being involved in ASB. It informs participating agencies (including police, Children and Young People’s Services, the ASB Team, Housing and Youth Service) of actions that have been taken against young people in relation to ASB and suggests how they can be dealt with further.

How does it work?

ABC+ gives young people an opportunity to rectify their behaviour with support before enforcement action is considered. It is available across the whole of Doncaster. It is important to remember that ABC+ should be seen as a positive intervention and not as a punishment.

The scheme includes standardised warning letters, Acceptable Behaviour Contracts (ABC’s) and a support package available at all stages.

The ABC+ scheme will ensure all young people entering into a contact will receive a support package. If the young person has not entered the criminal justice system a Youth Inclusion Support Service (YISS) referral will be suggested wherever possible, prior to the ABC stage, and the young person will receive the opportunity to engage in a support package via YISS. If however the young person is already in the criminal justice system the ABC+ team will be responsible for offering a support package, once the contract has been agreed and signed.

How do young people access ABC+?

Referral is only by participating agencies eg Safer Neighbourhood Teams, South Yorkshire Police, St Leger Homes, PCTs etc.
