A week of action to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour has been declared a success. Not in My Neighbourhood Week ran from Monday 13 October to Friday 17 October 2008.
Residents and SDP partners in Doncaster joined forces for a week of community action against anti-social behaviour, criminal damage and car crime, as well as helping to tidy up rubbish, dog fouling and graffiti across the borough’s communities.
Events included school visits to spread the anti-litter and road safety messages; vulnerable vehicle checks; litter sweeps; dog fouling patrols; school patrols to check for road safety and truancy, with Education Welfare Officers and Police Community Support Officers; and awareness raising about vulnerable vehicles, home security and personal safety.
Crime reduction packs and SmartWater invisible property marking kits were handed out across the borough, while South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service carried out wheelie bin checks, smoke alarm checks and promoted fire safety among residents.
Advice was also given on starting up Neighbourhood Watch schemes and those already established welcomed new members.
DVLA clamped two vehicles that were not taxed and, in the Hyde Park area, the Neighbourhood Management Team joined forces with Customs and Excise to test vehicles for red diesel. Forty seven vehicles were checked and seven offences dealt with.
In the Rossington area, two arrests were made for failure to appear in court, one person was charged with assault, one with criminal damage and one with the breach of an ASBO.
In addition, 11 Fixed Penalty Notices were issued for traffic offences, public order offences and littering.
Chair of the Safer Doncaster Partnership, Mayor Martin Winter, said: “The week has been a resounding success. While the SDP partners work tirelessly throughout the year to ensure Doncaster is a pleasant and safe place to live, it is worth enforcing the message, with this specially designated week, that we will not cease to tackle instances of criminal and anti-social behaviour.
“The week also reminds residents that we are here to listen to them and to take on board their concerns by working in partnership with them.”
