There are lots of ways individuals can contribute to reducing crime and disorder, and the Partnership relies on the residents of Doncaster to help in the fight against crime. First and foremost, if everyone took some obvious and basic steps to protect their own property this would certainly reduce the number of sneak-in burglaries and car crime, because a high proportion of these crimes are committed when homes or vehicles are insecure.
The other important thing individuals can do is to report crime and disorder, so that the Police and Council can respond to the specific problems in your area. See the Page on Reporting Crime for more information.
If you wish to be more involved in making your community safer, you could join or set up a Neighbourhood Watch Scheme. This could be on a very small scale, involving just a few houses, where residents are prepared to keep an eye on each others' property, and report anything suspicious. Neighbourhood Watch Groups also receive information from the Police on local issues, and can get involved in local crime reduction initiatives.
