How to set up/join a scheme

Neighbourhood Watch is a popular way for people of all ages and backgrounds to get involved in preventing crime in their community. Schemes usually start with people sharing crime prevention advice and activities, keeping an eye on each others’ property, improving home security and building two way communication with the police.

To find out if your area has a Neighbourhood Watch scheme, you could talk to your neighbours, or contact your local police station and ask them (South Yorkshire Switchboard 0114 2 20 20 20). If you do not have a scheme in your area you can consider setting one up yourself.

Doncaster has a network of Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinators for each area, whom you can contact through the Area Co-ordinator.

South Yorkshire Neighbourhood Watch

South Yorkshire Neighbourhood Watch works in partnership with the Police and Doncaster Council to generate good citizenship and greater community participation in preventing and reducing crime.  Neighbourhood Watch groups aim to prevent and reduce crime and the fear of crime and anti-social behaviour by engaging with the community to promote and establish Neighbourhood Watches and support existing schemes.

In Doncaster there are already:

An added incentive?

Many insurance companies already offer a discount for membership of Neighbourhood Watch, and it may also be possible to get a discount for SmartWater as well. This would easily cover the cost of buying it, and both membership of Neighbourhood Watch and SmartWater are effective ways of reducing crime, and the fear of crime in your area.

Please help the Safer Doncaster Partnership make Doncaster safer, by joining or starting a Neighbourhood Watch in your area.
