Research and Analysis plays a crucial role in producing the information needed for the Safer Doncaster Partnership to work together to reduce crime and disorder in Doncaster.
Information about crime and disorder is collected from a number of partner agencies and analysed to produce reports for the Partnership on trends, hotspots and emerging issues. These reports are then used to help decide on how resources can be targeted, to ensure they are most effective, and go to the heart of the problems.
The information is used by the theme groups to monitor performance against the different crime types. Crime reports are produced on a monthly and quarterly basis, which enable the Partnership to measure the effectiveness of specific initiatives and respond quickly to changing priorities. The multi-agency theme groups for Acquisitive Crime, Violent Crime, Substance misuse and Criminal damage and Anti-social Behaviour, co-ordinate initiatives through the Safer Neighbourhood Teams in response to issues that emerge from statistical information.
For example, some crimes are seasonal in nature and increases can be predicted to some extent, so crime reduction initiatives can be put in place in anticipation of this. Using the monthly reports, we can judge how effective these measures have been by comparing figures for the same period in previous years. Similarly, by plotting incidences of crime by area, and type of crime, it is possible to identify crime hotspots, and respond appropriately.
Consultation with the community to obtain their views and concerns on crime, is a very important part of the team’s work, and they work on the development and analysis of surveys to ensure that they are effective in reaching all sections of the community, and generate meaningful information to guide the activity of the Partnership.
All of this work depends on the public reporting incidents to the police or the council so that they are taken into account in deciding where the priorities are
