Making Doncaster Safer

Safer Neighbourhood Teams were introduced by Doncaster Council and South Yorkshire Police aimed at tackling and reducing the causes of crime in communities across Doncaster at the same time making your neighbourhood safer.

Separated into five areas, north, east, south, west and urban, each Safer Neighbourhood Team works to address problems of crime and anti-social behaviour and other neighbourhood issues within each area. 

By joining forces, the teams have a greater understanding of exactly what those problems are, and how best to respond to them and the needs of their community. From maintaining children and OAP homes, to combating noise pollution, street lighting maintenance to normal policing and crime issues – the team tackles a host of neighbourhood issues and concerns.

You may have seen the new Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) patrolling your area, their aim is to complement Doncaster Council’s Community Safety Wardens (CSWs) who have already provided a valuable asset to dealing with community issues.  PCSOs are police staff, whose role it is to be at the forefront of neighbourhood policing.  

Each safer neighbourhood team is led by a Police Inspector and a Council Area Manager whilst a Police Sergeant and Neighbourhood Manager are in charge of each of the neighbourhoods in that team .Comprised of PCSOs, CSWs and Council Officers, the teams provide not only a visible presence in the fight against crime, but also a direct point of contact in local neighbourhoods.
