The Safer Neighbourhood Teams were introduced by Doncaster Council and South Yorkshire Police in order to make the neighbourhoods more secure. Their aim is to tackle and reduce the causes of crime in communities across Doncaster.
There are five Safer Neighbourhood Teams, each focussing on a different geographical area – North, East, South, West and Urban.
Each safer neighbourhood team is led by a Police Inspector and a Council Area Manager whilst a Police Sergeant and Neighbourhood Manager are in charge of each of the neighbourhoods in that team. Comprised of Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs), Community Safety Wardens (CSWs) and Council Officers, the teams provide not only a visible presence in the fight against crime, but also a direct point of contact in local neighbourhoods.
The Safer Neighbourhood Teams work to address problems of crime and anti-social behaviour and other neighbourhood issues within each area. By joining forces, the teams have a greater understanding of exactly what those problems are, and how best to respond to them and the needs of their community. From maintaining children's and OAPs' homes, to combatting noise pollution; from street lighting maintenance to normal policing and crime issues – the team tackles a host of neighbourhood issues and concerns.
