Business Crime

Reducing the level of retail and business crime in Doncaster will encourage businesses to locate here and contribute to the area’s economic development, securing jobs and bringing investment into the local economy.

In Doncaster 23% of all crime is committed against businesses. The CASED (Creating A Safer Environment in Doncaster) project is an innovative scheme to reduce the level of retail based crimes such as shoplifting, theft and robbery in the town centre.  Businesses in the town centre have signed up to the CASED scheme, which involves being issued with a radio, to communicate with each other, the pub watch scheme, Police, Community Safety Wardens and the CCTV control room.

By sharing intelligence, members are able to identify persistent offenders and prevent them from committing crime, and respond quickly to incidents that do occur.  The CASED initiative has made a major contribution to reducing the levels of crime in town centre which has led to CASED being awarded the prestigious “Safer Shopping Award” sponsored by the British Retail Consortium and endorsed by the Home Office and the Association of Chief Police Officers.
