Anti-social behaviour can include various types of behaviour eg: abandoning cars, vandalism, graffiti, noisy parties, littering and youth nuisance. The FLAG (fighting Litter, abandoned cars and graffiti) team and Community Safety Wardens respond to reports of anti-social behaviour, and take the appropriate action; clearing litter, removing graffiti, or organising activities for young people are just some of the ways we are tackling anti social behaviour.
In some cases, though, problems are so serious as to require the use of the law to curb anti-social behaviour. The Anti Social Behaviour team deals only with the most serious cases, and takes swift and decisive action against offenders.
The Council has the power to tackle anti social behaviour regardless of whether the person is a council tenant, private tenant, homeowner or an organisation. It has obtained many Anti-Social Behaviour Orders, which prohibit the offender from specific anti-social activities, or from going to particular places where they have caused a nuisance. They can also be prohibited from contacting certain people who are known to cause trouble with them. Anti Social behaviour orders are a very effective way to deal with these types of problems.
Because the team deal only with the most serious cases, they cannot accept reports directly from the public. The aim is to resolve the problem without the need to take legal action whenever possible, but this may be the only way to stop persistent and serious anti-social behaviour.
Contact the Customer Services Hotline on 01302 736000, or have a word with your Community Safety Warden, if you are suffering from the anti-social activities of a neighbour, or someone who hangs around your neighbourhood. If a crime has been committed ring the police on 0114 2202020. You can also contact St Leger Homes on 01302 862862 or housing association to report anti-social activities which may be in breach of tenancy agreements. Above all don't suffer in silence, or be tempted to "have a go" yourself.
Anti-social behaviour is not acceptable and action will be taken against people who make the lives of others a misery.
