New housing development within Wheatley during the last 20 years has been minimal. The electoral ward of Wheatley comprises of the communities of Lower Wheatley & Clay Lane. Wheatley Hills forms part of both Wheatley & Town Moor Wards.
Intake could be typically described as a commuter neighbourhood in the east part of the urban centre of Doncaster. The neighbourhood suffers from a lack of green spaces and play areas. There is also an unequal spread of facilities and retail outlets that contributes to some of the problems that it faces today.
Clay Lane Estate which forms part of the Wheatley Ward in often described locally as an island due to it being surrounded on the eastern boundary by railway lines and on the western boundary by a busy dual carriage way.
