Sandall Beat
There is an ongoing project at Sandall Beat, the aim of which is to improve access into the wood and increase the number of visitors. The project, which has attracted significant financial investment, will include improvements to the class room facilities, increased disabled access and increased patrols to deal with nuisance behaviour amongst other things. The project is being overseen by the Sandall Beat Steering Group and will enable us to ensure that our Green Flag status is maintained.
DRIPark& Ride Scheme
A Project at Doncaster Royal Infirmary is to introduce a Park and Ride Scheme in an attempt to alleviate parking pressures around the hospital. Planning permission is now in place and consultation underway with residents.
Woodfield Plantation
Proposals for the design and implementation of the final stages of public open space at Woodfield Plantation are currently being developed. The proposals includes the installation of an emergency spur road near the garage, completion of footpaths, cycle paths, lighting, as well as new landscaping within the tranche 6 and 7 areas of the development. Also proposed are facilities for young people including a multi use games area and a children's play area, as well as, some improvement works to the near by lily pond. It is anticipated that if all goes well works will commence within the existing financial year.
HexthorpePark
The Neighbourhood team are currently working with the Friends of Hexthorpe Park on a project to replace the existing aviary with a new one in the park. The aviary has long been a popular and unique feature within one of Doncaster's main urban parks and visitors from all over come to enjoy the birds and small animals that are present.
WaverleyCommunity Centre
Plans to replace the deteriorating windows at the community centre have been given the go ahead. Once replaced, the community centre will benefit from new UPVC type windows that, as well as improving the overall appearance of the centre, will also improve the energy efficiency of the building.
Town Fields Pavilion
The last remaining pavilion on the Town Fields has been demolished and is being replaced by a new, fit for purpose pavilion/changing rooms that will bring Town Field and the clubs and communities who use this excellent area of green space, well and truly in to the 21st century. The contractors, despite the dreadful weather, are reporting that the work programme is on schedule and the facility should be ready for the last half of the season after Christmas.
Six Streets Redevelopment
The project is intended to create a radical transformation of an area of pre-1919 terraced houses through selective demolition, area remodelling, home improvement, new build provision, environmental improvements with improved use of public space and a cross tenure approach to area management with strong resident involvement. This is consistent with the New Deal for Communities team’s vision that “By 2010 we want people to be queuing up to live here, not queuing up to leave”. The ethos of the scheme remains unchanged although the final mix of properties to be retained and demolished has been refined through this partnership working.
Civic & Cultural Quarter
The Civic and Cultural Quarter will re-vitalise the Waterdale area of the town centre into a place of real interest. The landmark £300 million development, delivered in four stages over six to eight years, will cover some 25 acres which includes Waterdale and the area around the Council House and the former Doncaster College. Although the current Waterdale Shopping Centre is not part of the scheme, as the project develops and the high quality facilities attract people and business into the area, there should be a positive impact on this shopping precinct and neighbouring parts of town. The carefully thought out layout and consistent building design will replace the current mismatch of properties, styles and uses giving the area a clear identity. It will be a huge attraction that draws people in and encourages redevelopment in the neighbouring areas (i.e. in and around the Waterdale Shopping Centre).
