Balby and Hexthorpe

The Balby neighbourhood stretches from The Balby Bridge Estate towards the A1 (M) motorway to the west and, to the south, the neighbourhood extends down the main east coast railway line. It forms part of the Balby Ward and is the largest neighbourhood in the borough. The Woodfield Plantation Estate is a new, affluent estate built onto the southern edge of the Balby neighbourhood and has vastly different issues from the rest of the Balby neighbourhood.

Hexthorpe is a defined neighbourhood within the Doncaster Central Ward (which also includes Hyde Park, Town Centre and a part of Balby). The neighbourhood of Hexthorpe is locked together by the main East Coast Railway line and the River Don; consequently access to Hexthorpe is via two bridges giving Hexthorpe a unique and clear boundary. The northern boundary of Hexthorpe is defined by the River Don and the flood plain running at the back of Old Hexthorpe has kept development within Hexthorpe relatively static (as there has been little room for development).
