The Alliance

The Green Corridor project is an alliance between Barnsley, Doncaster and Wakefield local authorities.  It has been set up to tackle the issues of low demand housing and market vulnerability in adjoining areas which have a coalfield legacy within a rural area.

The Alliance began in 2003, the local authorities work in partnership with the Department of Communities and Local Government (DCLG), English Partnerships, Yorkshire Forward, The Housing Corporation, Transform, The West Yorkshire Housing Partnership and local housing associations.  Chevin Housing Group, Wakefield and District Housing and South Yorkshire Housing Association represent the local housing associations of the group.  Local members and representatives of local organisations and local community groups contribute via stakeholder events which have been held regularly from the beginning.

In December 2004, English Partnerships developed the project further by appointing consultants GVA Grimley to lead on the strategic process and develop the Green Corridor Strategic Framework.
