Making your claim
If you have recently made a claim for Income Support, Jobseeker's Allowance, income related Employment & Support Allowance or Pension Credit, the Department for Work and Pensions will have asked you if you wanted to claim Housing Benefit and /or Council Tax Benefit. If you said yes, they will send us a claim for you.
If you said no, or are already receiving one of these incomes you can claim Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit by using form HCTB1. You can get this form from the Department for Work and Pensions or you can print a copy from the Related Links section on the left-hand side of this page. Alternatively you can fill in our claim form.
If you do not get Income Support, Jobseeker's Allowance, income related Employment & Support Allowance or Pension Credit, you should fill in our form for Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit.
We normally pay Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit from the Monday after we receive your claim. So you must claim as soon as you think you might be entitled to benefit.
If you cannot fill in our claim form straight away, you can make an Intention to Claim. You can do this by completing an Intention to Claim form (a single page form), or by telephoning our office to register your Intention to Claim, or by writing to us and telling us you wish to claim Housing Benefit and/or Council Tax Benefit. If you fill in our claim form within one calendar month of giving us an Intention to Claim, you will not lose any benefit. This is because we can normally pay your benefit from the Monday after we get the Intention to Claim.
The same forms are used to claim Housing Benefit, Council Tax Benefit and Second Adult Rebate. They are available by telephoning us or from: our office, or any St Leger Homes office, or any Customer Service Centre.
