The accountability of food business operations to ensure the sale of safe hygienic food and the maintenance of high standards of hygiene is governed by the provisions of the Food Safety (General Food Hygiene) Regulations 1995, made under the E.C. Directive on the Hygiene of Foodstuffs, and enforced by the Division.
Other hygiene regulations made under E.C. Directives on Meat Products, Minced Meat and Meat Preparations, Fishery Products, and Dairy Products require the inspection and E.C. approval of premises manufacturing such products. This is carried out by officers from the Division, in close liaison with Department of Agriculture veterinary officers. Further regular inspection and monitoring of these premises is carried out to ensure the maintenance of E.C. standards.
