Noise affects health and enjoyment of property. The Council has a duty to see that citizens can enjoy peace and quiet. Complaints can be monitored with sophisticated recording equipment and then assessed later at a special laboratory in the Council House.
Legal action can be taken including confiscation of equipment and fines up to £5,000 for domestic and £20,000 for businesses. Other action includes the disconnection of sounding burglar alarms that do not meet the Code of Practice standards. The costs involved are recharged to the owners/occupiers.
Out of hours complaints about noisy parties and other noise issues can be given to our Night Time Noise Patrol which operates on Friday and Saturday night from 9pm to 3am. Please phone 07917 234 660 during that time.
