Food Hygiene Award
The Food Hygiene Award was first launched in 1995. Its aim was to raise the standards of food hygiene in businesses throughout the borough in a way that was recognisable to the public. It would reward businesses for hard work and dedication.
The scheme was revised in order to encourage food businesses to strive towards excellence in terms of the management of food safety. Traditionally, there were three levels of award - Bronze, Silver and Gold.
The award scheme was targeted at those food businesses that met and exceeded the minimum standards set by the Food Hygiene Regulations 852/2004.
Marks were awarded for all areas of the business on a ranking of 0 to 3. If the business achieved all 3`s they will be awarded with a Gold, any 2`s a Silver, any 1`s a Bronze. If a food business failed to achieve any points against any of the criteria an award was not be given.
The award scheme has now been replaced and superceded by the Scores on The Doors Scheme

- Doncaster has formed a partnership with the 3 other South Yorkshire Authorities and employed the services of Transparency Data Ltd.
- They run a website called Scores on the Doors, which is currently being used by a number of Authorities.
- The scheme has a star rating award with 0 stars being the lowest rating and 5 stars being the highest.
- The star rating is dependent on the sum of the 3 level of compliance scores.
