Litter
Litter in public places is unsightly, is environmentally unfriendly, is in some cases dangerous and most notably is an offence. Litter ranges in size from a single sweet wrapper to a bag full of rubbish.
The Environmental Protection Act of 1990 states that if a person drops, throws, deposits, or leaves anything that causes defacement in a public place they are committing a littering offence.
So always try to use a litter bin or take your litter home.
How can I request a litter bin for my street?
You can contact the Customer Services Section using the contact information given at the top of this web page.
Alternatively you can use this online enquiry e-form: Litter Bin Online Enquiry Form
You need to provide as much information as possible about the problem detailing why and how you think a litter bin would improve the situation. An officer will then investigate and make a decision on their findings.
Where a litter bin is to be erected it may not be possible to locate the bin in the exact area you suggest, but a suitable alternative location may be found.
