How do I get items of bulky household waste collected?

You can have up to 8 items collected on an order. You can place up to 4 orders in one year.

Each order costs £23.50 inclusive of VAT or you may be eligible for a discounted service cost of £5.88 if you are in receipt of a qualifying benefit.

Contact the Customer Services Contact Centre on 01302 736000 who will take details of what you want collected and send the appropriate paperwork for completion.

What will you take?

Furniture, electrical goods, bags of household rubbish, carpets etc.

Please note that building & brick rubble, garden waste, hazardous waste, car tyres & car parts are not removed on this service.  Please click on the document at the bottom of this page to see a list of items and alternative recycling/disposal options.

If you are unsure whether your item qualifies for this service please contact the Customer Services Contact Centre using the details at the top of this page.

Where do I leave the items for bulky collection?

You need to leave the items for collection in an easily accessible location outside your property, (not in a garage or out-building), but within your boundary. We are not able to enter your property to collect items.

If you leave items in your back garden, make sure that they can be easily moved and that they will fit down the side of your house. If in doubt, please leave the items in your front garden. All items must be within the boundary of your property.

How do I know when my items will be collected?

When you place your order you will be given a day for collection. Unfortunately we cannot give a specific time of day.

What do I need to consider when arranging a bulky collection?

If you are requesting the removal of furniture, could these items be of use to someone else? If so you can contact the Customer Services Contact Centre on 01302 736000. When you are making a bulky request please provide as much information as possible. Give details of all items to be collected. If the items are bags, we need to know how many. We will only collect items that are listed in the original request.

When getting your items ready for collection, you can help us by considering the following;

Can I dispose of bulky items myself?

You may wish to take items to your nearest Household Waste Recycling Centre. To find out more information about where these are located, opening hours and what can be taken there, please look at the Household Waste Recycling Centres page.

Alternatively, if you have unwanted furniture that could be reused, contact the Customer Services Contact Centre on 01302 736000. They will be able to arrange for such items to be collected from your home free of charge.

How do I pay?

When you request your collection you can pay either;

Do you take fridges and freezers?

Yes. Fridges and freezers contain coolant gases known as CFCs and HFCs. These are extremely harmful to the atmosphere and need to be disposed of in a safe manner.

We will collect fridges and freezers free of charge as part of the Bulky Collection Service and arrange for their safe disposal.

Please ensure fridges and freezers do not contain any food or drink.
