Did you know!

Did you know that nearly 3 billion nappies are thrown away in the UK every year? This equates to 8 million every day and the vast majority of these (90%) end up in our landfill sites.

Real nappies have come a long way since the old terry nappies and are now a real alternative to disposables. The benefits to your pocket and the environment can be huge!

The Benefits of Real Nappies

Cost
Extensive research has been carried out on the costs of real nappies compared to disposables. By kitting out your baby in washable nappies you could save £500, this saving could be much higher if they are passed onto any further children you may have.

You can kit out your baby in real nappies on the high street for under £50. This includes all the nappies and waterproof covers you need for the whole of your baby's nappy wearing life. The same amount of money would only buy nine weeks of disposables.

For further information and calculations on how real nappies can save you money please see the following links:

There's no need for pins and folding. Most real nappies have Velcro fastenings and some are shaped They're easy to wash. No need for boiling, you can wash them at 60 degrees Babies using washable nappies tend to potty train 6 months earlier than those in disposables  Some real nappies are shaped for your convenience. You can also buy all-in-one nappies.

They look great!

There are many trendy designs in many different fabrics to choose from and a choice of colours and patterns too! Cotton nappies are the natural choice. They are made from a natural material, which is soft and kind to a baby's skin.

A cotton nappy allows a baby's skin to breathe helping to keep it cool. Cotton nappies have already been worn by generations of babies so we already know that a cotton bottom is best for baby.

Environment
It is estimated that around 8 million nappies are thrown away every day in the UK!

Studies carried out show that using cotton nappies is one of the most practical ways that you can reduce the amount of rubbish you throw away each day.

To get your baby through from birth to potty you will only need to buy around 50 cotton nappies compared to thousands of disposables. So 'Slim your bin' and give the environment a break!

The true cost of the disposable nappy
To collect and get rid of all the disposable nappies thrown away in Doncaster currently costs your local councils thousands of pounds each year. This cost will continue to grow because of increase in the cost of dumping rubbish.

Just think... the money spent by Doncaster Council on getting rid of disposable nappies could be put towards much greater causes. What a waste!!
