Public Parks

Public Parks are defined as areas of land which are public gardens, recreation or pleasure grounds containing walks and facilities for passive or active recreation. Public Parks have been categorised into 3 categories according to their nature: - Heritage Parks, Conservation Parks and Recreation Parks:

Heritage Parks - Parks with Historical, archaeological features or with a history of horticultural excellence (or parks which have the potential of being brought back to feature horticultural excellence).

Conservation Parks - Parks whose main asset is a strong ecological and nature conservation value, and where the main activity is ‘passive’ e.g. walking, bird watching or just sitting and appreciating nature. Parks where nature conservation is actively promoted.

Recreation Parks - Parks where the main attractions are ‘active’ e.g. Formal pitches, children’s playgrounds, etc.

In total 20 Parks in the Borough have been identified, covering 493 acres of land, these publicly accessible sites are listed in the Parks web page.

More information on Public Parks can be found in the Greenspace Strategy (see attached .pdf in left hand menu)
