Amenity areas are public open spaces that are there to improve and enhance the appearance of the local environment. Generally, Amenity areas are either unsuitable for recreational use or recreational use is prohibited, and as a result they are distinct from Informal Open Space. They include road verges, roundabouts, and amenity areas in housing developments. The sites included in the audit are Council owned, publicly accessible Amenity Areas.
309 sites classed as Amenity in Housing covering 269 acres and 119 sites classed as Road Verges covering 86 acres have been identified in the Borough. Publicly accessible Amenity in Housing and the Road Verge sites are listed in the tables attached.
More information on Amenity Areas can be found in The Greenspace Strategy for Doncaster available as a downloadable document in the left hand menu.
