Funding your ideas

Once you have read our wildlife garden pack you might be full of ideas and plans for your school grounds, community hall or other communal space.  If you you would like to make a difference for wildlife in your neighbourhood, the following funding bodies may be able to assist with providing some or all of your funding needs.  Just contact them and find out if your ideas fit with what kinds of projects they are currently offering to fund.  

Each funding body has different criteria that a project needs to meet; whether it be a certain percentage of the total project costs, out-of-school-hours projects only or the location of the site to be improved.  With each listing below is a brief overview of the main criteria used to judge the funding bid.  Consider these carefully before submitting a bid as they are strictly adhered to.

Awards for All

• Grants of between £500 and £5,000 to fund a specific project or activity
• For not-for-profit groups, Parish or Town Councils, Schools or Health bodies
• You must use the grant within one year
• For extra-curricular activities only

• Awards for All

Biffaward Small Grants Scheme

• Grants of between £250-£5,000 although the total cost of your project must be no more than £10,000. 
• Open to any not-for-profit community led organisation with its own bank account
• Must aim to improve an amenity located within 10 miles of a Biffa operation
• The site must have full public access
• Project must be completed within one year

Coalfields Regeneration Trust

• ‘Bridging the Gap’ grants of between £500-£10,000 – up to 100% of project costs
• Open to community/voluntary groups, town or parish councils and parent teacher associations
• For small-scale environmental improvements, local heritage or leisure activities
• Project must be completed within one year
