Big Lottery - Biodiversity Transforming Your Space Project

The Big Lottery Fund is providing funding for a comprehensive Biodiversity project in the Doncaster Borough. Since May 2004 the Biodiversity Transforming Your Space project has been recording, cataloguing and raising awareness of Doncaster's rich natural heritage. The key pieces of work in the project are:
- The re-survey of Doncaster’s Sites of Scientific Interest, using a revised set of selection guidelines. The sites will be identified in Doncaster’s revised Urban Development Programme (UDP).
- A Phase 1 survey of the Borough, showing landscape features and habitat distribution. This will also help identify candidate SSI’s and quantify habitat status so that biodiversity targets can be set.
- Increased data on the Borough's rare and scarce plants.
- A hedgerow database, to link into the Local Biodiversity Action Plan (LBAP) and planning/land-use data.
- An upgraded and updated Biological Records Database.
- The development of a Nature Conservation site database for public use and website with Biodiversity information.
- The production and launch of Doncaster’s LBAP, associated promotional and educational literature and displays, and a launch event.
- The commissioning of site management plans and their delivery.
- Increased public interaction through events, presentations, consultations, advice and support, establishment of project/site management groups, links to local schools.
The Doncaster Biodiversity Transforming Your Space Project is Funded by the National Lottery through Big Lottery.
