Introduction

Cows eating

Animal Health's primary function is to prevent the spread of disease and unnecessary suffering of farm animals within the Metropolitan Borough by advising on animal health matters, and by monitoring and enforcing of animal health legislation; and as a consequence maintaining good health of livestock.

In addition the service enforces standards and advises on the quality and composition of feedstuffs given to food animals within the borough and is responsible for enforcing the legislation relating to disease control, including rabies, within the borough.

The service also records movements of livestock within the borough. For movement of sheep, goats & pigs, keepers can contact the Animal Health Team for a copy of the movement licence form.

The details of the Animal Health Plan 09/10 which is a service level agreement between ourselves and the Government Animal Health Department can be found as an attached document below.

Further guidance on animal health and welfare issues and the Pet Travel Scheme can be found at the DEFRA web site, or at the Farm Animal Welfare Council web site - links to these can be found below.

If you have any queries about matters involving the Animal Health Service please contact the Animal Health team on the above telephone number.
