For those who are performing at an elite level, or have the potential to do so, the first point of enquiry about sources of help with coaching, funding and other types of support for athletes should be the governing body for your sport.
As well as nurturing talent in their sport, Governing Bodies of Sport (NGBs) look after a range of issues associated with the administration and development of their sport, such as its rules, the education of coaches and the organisation of events. Most have a national headquarters and regional/county structures. Some have development officers whose remit often includes the provision of guidance and support to local clubs.

Sports Aid is a voluntary organisation that supports talented young amateur sportspeople. It will consider providing grants for young people who do not yet qualify under the Sport England Lottery Fund World Class programme.
