School Sport Partnerships are part of a national programme funded by the government to improve the links between schools to develop Physical Education, School Sport and enhance local sporting opportunities within the community.
The Get Active School Sport Partnership, based at Balby Carr Community Sports College, was launched in September 2004 covering the west side of Doncaster.
The purpose of the Get Active School Sport Partnership is to increase sporting opportunities for all through a coordinated programme of physical education, school sport, and out of hours school learning activities. This takes place by working with a wide range of partners including community groups, sports clubs and local authority sports development units.
The Get Active School Sport Partnership is based on five key principles:
The Get Active School Sport Partnership will work and support 9 secondary schools, 5 special schools and 64 primary schools in Doncaster, over 1000 staff and over 25,000 young people! These schools include all those in the following pyramids - Balby, Danum, Don Valley, Edlington, Hall Cross, Mexborough, North Doncaster Technology College, Northcliffe and Ridgewood.
Each Pyramid of schools also has a School Sport Coordinator, a teaching member of Staff at the secondary school who is released from timetabled lessons for 2 days of the week to support schools to increase high quality PE and School Sport opportunities for all pupils.
