Man exercising in gym - Health referral

Today we are not as active as we should be because of modern life. We need to try to make small changes to have a more active lifestyle and to eat better. being more active helps us prevent us having life threatening illnesses such as heart disease, cancer and diabetes. it also helps us feel better by helping us relax and feel less stressed, you may also lose those extra pounds you've wanted to shed.

Being active on a regular basis can give us:-

How much activity should I be doing?

Adults should aim to achieve a total of 30 minutes a day of at least moderate intensity physical activity on five or more days of the week.

This can be achieved by doing short bouts of 10 minutes activity.

Moderate intensity is feeling slight warm, slightly out of breath and making your heart beat a little faster.

Young people

All young people (5-18 year olds) should participate in at least 60 minutes moderate intensity activity each day.

Those who do little activity should first aim towards half an hour a day of moderate intensity activity.

At least twice a week, young people should carry out activities to help enhance and maintain muscular strength, flexibility and bone health. Relevant activities are climbing, skipping, jumping, gymnastics and sports.
