What we provide

Doncaster Council's Active Doncaster provides a range of opportunities for local people to participate in sport and physical activity. We want to support and develop both the quality and quantity of facilities, instructors, coaches, volunteers, players and participants. The service rarely works alone and its successes are due to its commitment to partnership working and the support of those partners.

Community Active Recreation and Physical Activity Development

By working in partnership with the Neighbourhood Teams, Active Doncaster has established 2 Community Active Recreation Officers (CARDOs). They are currently working in Rossington and Cantley & Bessacarr.

Their aim is to get more people actively participating and organising sports and physical activities that meet the needs of their local area.

The Community Sport & Physical Activity Development Team within Active Doncaster work in partnership with the CARDO's and community organisations to positively tackle barriers to participation and ensure that new developments have long term effects.

Physical Education and School Sport

Doncaster has been successful in developing two sports colleges; Rossington All Saints and Balby Carr which both host the School Sports Coordinator Programmes. Their aim is to increase the number of young people with access to high quality physical education and after school sport. The service also gives support and training to teachers through continuous professional development.

Exercise for Health

Doncaster's Exercise for Health scheme is working towards helping people improve their health and well being by leading a more active lifestyle. The scheme provides participants with the support and advice that they need to exercise safely and appropriately.

Referrals are received from participating surgeries and other health professionals including health visitors, district nurses and physiotherapists. Individuals who are suitable for the scheme can receive up to 50% discount to exercise at any of the 7 delivery centres with specialist help from qualified exercise instructors.

For further information please contact the Principal Physical Activity Development Officer on 01302 737616.

Planning and Support

This area of the service delivers the traditional element of sports development to help clubs and sports improve their delivery and facilities.

The service has supported over £18 million worth of new and improved facilities for sport, which will result in four new synthetic turf pitches, six sports halls on school sites, new changing rooms and six skate parks.
