How can we make the best of what is happening?
A Local Cultural Strategy helps us decide how to make the best of what we have. It has been developed from the opinions of people who live, work and play in Doncaster.
What are the main things in the strategy?
- Doncaster's arts, sports, cultural and recreational opportunities need developing, to build what we have already into something which we can be really proud of.
- Investment in culture is needed locally to get better facilities and activities.
- These facilities should be easier to use and the activities easier for people to take part-in.
- Cultural activities should be involve people in an exciting way, and help them to increase their self-confidence.
- Local people must be listened to about cultural activities and resources, and involved in managing them.
- Local people must be involved in reviewing the Strategy in the future.
What difference will it make to me?
- It will be easier to get money and resources for the activities you are interested in.
- There will be better and more up to date facilities for you to use.
- More visitors and tourists will be attracted to Doncaster.
- More people will find jobs such as activity leaders, artists and tutors in creative businesses.
- Doncaster's many different cultures will be reflected in more activities and events.
- Your activities will be more highly valued and seen to be helping your achievements.
- Consultation for an updated strategy will start before the end of March 2008.
When will I see these differences?
The Council adopted the Local Cultural Strategy in July 2001. The aim was to make things better by 2004.
Consultation for the new edition of the strategy will begin before the end of March 2008.
What happens in the future?
To make sure the Strategy helps to make things better, we must check that it is working. It will be monitored each year, and after three years it will be reviewed and its success measured.
