DBKA (Doncaster Beekeepers Association) is a branch of Yorkshire Beekeepers Association and welcomes beekeepers and those aspiring to be beekeepers to our meetings.
Several of our members provide a service (usually free) by removing swarms of honeybees from peoples gardens. Illustrated talks on honeybees and beekeeping can be arranged for other environmentally aware groups. We can also put members of the public in touch with suppliers of locally produced honey and beeswax.
Winter lecture meetings are held on the 1st Tuesday of each month (October 07 - April 08) in the upstairs function room of the Parklands Social Club, Wheatley Hall Road, Doncaster.
Summer Beekeeping demonstration meetings are held at selected apiaries at weekends (details to be confirmed). We also have an annual honeyshow in the autumn, this will be on the 4th November 2008, where members compete to see who can produce the best honey, mead, honeycakes and wax.
Our annual DBKA outing this year is on the 29th June 2008 where we will be visiting Whitby. The trip includes travel to Whitby by coach and enjoyment of a steam train ride from Pickering to Grosmont.
Classes in beekeeping are organised every spring at very economic rates; £25.00 for a course of six lessons plus one practical session (assembling equipment) and two hands-on apiary meetings with protective bee veils/suits provided. Participants will get a CD of all PowerPoint presentations and lecture notes. Dates, time and venue details for 2008 are in the table below:
